Re: SCIMITAR FRANCE

Post by DARK STAR » Wed Jun 01, 2016 7:03 pm

Back to the ... past.

Yesterday I went to the Apple Store for another rendezvous at the Genius Bar.
They explained that because the photos were registered under El Capitan, the ancillary data (e.g. indexing) is not compatible with previous versions of OS (eg Yosemite).
So, after 2.5 hours they managed to recover iWeb and its content and 26 000 images - but not the indexing.
I now have thousands of photos of Scimitars, but don't ask me anything about them because I don't know whose is whose.

Then I tried to upload the site, and got the same error message "insufficient memory".
This, I have now come to understand, is because I created (or at least updated) the site on El Capitan, which, as we now know, is not compatible.
It appears that new MacBooks are not compatible with anything, old Mac software, compact discs, ethernet cables ...
Except, apparently, they now work very well with Widnows.
I never had the slightest problem with a Mac until I bought this one last year and was pleased to have a free upgrade to El Capitan.
It is crap, absolute crap.

So I have now uploaded my site from the old Mac, which works very well and is compatible with everything (except Widnows).
There are several problems which I will be able to resolve in time -
1 - the site is five months out if date (see latest 'mise à jour'!)
2 - having started to empty the memory to give the computer to no1 son for his business administration, quite a few images are missing
3 - the link for the site has changed, it no longer recognises 'index' so please change your directory to
http://www.scimitarfrance.net/scimitarfrance/

Welcome back both of my fans

Some progress.
You can now (apparently) access the site with its simple name http://www.scimitarfrance.net
I am restoring images and have also uploaded a couple of photo-reports on events of this year.

But with all the images on one computer and the site on another, it's a bit complicated.
Especially when the only means of communication between the two is by e-mail

Right, I think I am up to date, see if you can find any errors or omissions!
The next challenge is to completely eradicate the corrupted iWeb from my new(ish) Mac and transfer the definitive version from the old Mac.
Wish me luck ...

Still running the site on my old Mac, must make an appointment at the Apple Store to effect the transfer.

Hundreds if not thousands of new items have been posted in the last six months, it's always worth a browse.
I am also starting to re-look everything a bit, starting with the title page which now looks like this ...

Shouldn't have said anything.
My server doesn't seem able / willing to make the latest changes so the ScimiHistory pages are missing a lot of new images and the ScimitarFrance titles are all to cock.
Hope it'll sort itself out, meanwhile I am preparing some pretty pasteurized images ...
I actually typed p o s t e r i s e d but the spellchecker apparently doesn't like that.

Slowly and unsurely it is working, here is a new-look Scimitar France page which shows most existing french Scimitars (and Sabres/Sabras but there are very few).
Sorted by département, there are 90-odd départements and 1000 photos so if anyone would like to produce a map ... 8)

Had to pay extra for the site as I have exceeded the 1go capacity.
Now have 5go, should be enough to be going on with.

Here's the 'new' Europe page for cars from Belgium, Switzerland, Spain etc

Gradually getting the new look together, my server is even more gradual than me so some bits I've done still aren't visible
This is the page for forriners, english in France, french in England, swiss in Katmandu etc.

SCIMITAR FRANCE

Post by DARK STAR » Sat Jan 13, 2018 3:05 pm

Oh dear, no updates for months!
The site itself is frequently updated though, well with a visit.

Today I present the french Scimitaristes and their cars.
Some have changed hands over the years, and some members have more than one car, which may not appear.
But you get the idea ...
