Hello Chris,
My friend liked your interpretations of the Flying Sub ... here's his answer ... a Bad Boy version

Re: La vie en Flying Sub

Two weeks ago the Flying Sub went to her first Controle Technique - i.e french MOT - which is required in order to put it under my name ...
Rather than going to the local MOT center, I preferred to go to the one which is taking care of the Caterhams next to my Caterham dealer. They are used to see Cats as well as classic cars, which certainly helps when some points are raised

Anyway, I was the only customer at 02pm on Saturday and I thought that maybe the mechanic would want to get back home early
Too bad ... I ran into the owner of the MOT center, who happens to be a plane mechanic ... who moved into cars when he retired from the Air Force 8) He had never seen a Scimitar before, and by the look of it he was definitely not in a hurry to go back home :?
As a matter of fact it appears that he was enthusiastic about the car

He allowed me to follow all the steps, get under the car and take pictures if I wished ... and he kept explaining me all the differences between checking a modern car and a classic one - differences in tolerances, etc. -
After 2 full hours of testing and filling out papers, the conclusion was: the car passes without any advisory, all green
The only points mentionned on the report were:
a/ superficial corrosion on the chassis, which should be taken care with a good brushing and waxoiling
b/ default in etancheity under the engine & gearbox - as Chris told me, nothing to worry ... it would not be a Scimitar if there were no oil leak  -

The car is now good to go until January 2020 :P (thanks to its 'collection status', MOT is every 5 years !)

Here are a couple of pics, which give a better view of the front scoop !

I am glad that I drove 2x100 miles to go to this MOT center, it was worth it ... plus a pleasant drive on a beautiful day !

Cheers,
Fred

Last week-end was the second noggin of the year at Vincennes ...
I will put some thumbnails in the thread viewtopic.php?f=12&t=27225
Here just a few pics of the Flying Sub which was on duty on the occasion
She'll deserve a good wash now
Cheers,
Fred

It has been a long time, but as a matter of fact the Flying Sub / Custard has been resting at the office
until last Friday ... nothing wrong with the car itself, but issues with the french authorities to get the carte grise
Still waiting now, which means that I am not allowed to drive her about (similar to SORN)

Nevertheless she was granted a day out last Friday - never mind the risk - for a road test and photo shooting session
with journalists of a french magazine 8)

The road test took about 1 hour and half/2 hours ... and she passed successfully, I mean the guy testing the car
was enthusiastic with its engine perfs and handling on the road :D
The static shooting session took place on a small airport, and this was by far the longest part - 4 hours -

Without disclosing too much about the contents of the article, here are a few pics of my own ... I cannot wait
to see the pics of a professional

Will let you know when the magazine will be out ...

Cheers,
Fred

PS. Chris, I'll send you all my pics tomorrow from the office

Hurray :D

The Flying Sub eventually received its carte grise (read french V5) today !
It took nearly 5 months fighting with the french administration - it could be a record ? - but I can now safely drive it without
the fear of crossing police patrols
She'll be on duty tonight ... her first steps as my long awaited classic daily driver

Cheers, Fred
