Ma vie avec "la bête verte"...

Post by landschrabbler » Sun Oct 05, 2014 11:00 pm

Bonjour,

as already posted in the "Introductions"-corner...

my name is Jörg (with an Umlaut...) - I am originally from Germany, I actually live in France, and since yesterday I am the proud owner of an English car - an SE5a, "la bête verte".

So with this thread I'll try to document for me, and share with you, what's going on with the Scimitar.

Looking forward to scimi-sational times,
Jörg

On the ipad you just keep the letter pressed and a selection of options appear?

Oh the Umlaut... tricky one 8)
But no prob if it's only Jorg - happens all the time.

So let's start the diary with DAY 1:
Saturday it was time to pick up the beast. We drove up to Ted and Sarah-Anne's place, where she was already waiting:
Image

After some coffee and the necessary paperwork (French bureaucracy takes it's toll...), it was time for Ted to drive the Scimi out of its barn a last time:
Image

The drive home was very enjoyable, and "voila", it was time to take the first picture at it's new home :

Let's continue with DAY 2:
Every first Saturday Sunday of the month sees a "Rassemblement des véhicules de collection antérieurs à 1985" at the Grand Rond in Toulouse. What better way to celebrate the new car than to participate in a meeting? People there where quite amazed by the appearance of the Scimitar:
Image

Okay, some got distracted by the Edsel next door:

Quite a difference in size, the English in size S, the American in size XXL:
Image

Well, that was the first weekend avec la bête, looking forward for more good times like that!
Cheers!

Thanks Jörg for the pics, "la bete verte" looks really great :P
Ted & Sarah-Anne explained to us that they joined the SouthoFrance sortie with their MG
since their Scimi had just been sold ... and was waiting for her new owner
Now we know where she is living
A bit far from my place, but I am looking forward to seeing her at the SouthoFrance '15 hopefully.
If you are considering going to the International '15 meeting in Wales let me know ...
we could make a convoy of french Scimitars 8)
Cheers,
Fred

Fear of the heat - a work day experience...

I am caught in a traffic jam - stop and go since almost 1 hour... and I am not really relaxed.
So far the e-fan keeps turning, and the temp gauge is not moving over on certain point. At the beginning I thougt about stopping the engine regularly, but then this is no Land Rover battery, and the last start was... slow. Voltmeter is a bit low compared to normal rolling... but now we seem to have reached the end.

Will keep you updated.

What does the gauge read?

Okay, now that I read my last post I get it that it might sound... a bit hysteric :?

Keeping in mind that outside temperature was only 24°C, I guess this was not yet at the limit, but hey - new car, new behaviours etc., and after all the storys you can find about overheating Scimis...

Turns out a construction site had been set up on my way home, resulting in a 1 hour 15 minutes ride to cover a distance of... 9 kilometers

Oh, didn't see Jim's post - gauge is in the middle between 90 and the beginning of the red, when the fan starts. But Ted told me that the gauge seems to be a bit ahead of the actual temperature.

Good luck Jörg !!

This is going to be a nice test ... I know the feeling as I once got stuck in heavy traffic around Paris,
and on another occasion ... 3 hours stuck on the last 5 km to access Le Mans Classic
I was not in Purple though ... it was with the Chimaera on duty, and with the V8 in July you can imagine the stress  :|

Hope you're safe back home !!
Cheers,
Fred

Classic Le Mans 2010 was unbelievably hot! Luckily 8 ball had a new radiator and a Webasto roof :-)
