How many sets do you want Chris?.

I have about 30 sets.

£20 + POST. :?: that's £5 a shoe, a saving of around £1.50 each. IF you only wanted the side that`s oiled up?.

Green/Red & Green/White are both together and plug into the OUTSIDE socket, Green/White is direct from Alternator.
Green/Black comes off the Temperature sender.

No sign of the Two heater circuits you mention??.

Standard cause of handbrake failure is the linkage that operates the shoes has siezed. Strip it and remove the linkage, you may have a struggle to clean it up. It should be a little sloppy when done. Give it a very slight smear of grease on the pivots too. Both sides need doing.

Thanks Mark, I'll take two pairs, let me know how much :)
It's urgent for the control technique (MoT)
Thanks for the pics too, I'll have a go at that tomorrow.
There are indeed two heaters, why do simple when you can do complicated
Each of the wires blue/green and blue/white feeds one element +ve.
-ve comes from earth on the carb via the internal spring plate.

For the brakes there is just not enough lining left to adjust up, the operating arm is touching the backplate !
It moves freely and is a little sloppy - thanks for reassuring me Andy.

Chris a pair is an Axle`s worth, Two left/Two right makes "A Pair".?.

You obviously have a leak from the TOP cylinder, I can see the "Trail" of fluid on the bottom of it.

I keep ALL NEW parts in for rear brakes on SE6a> if you want them too? I can do you a good price on the shoes and A new cylinder?.

Ok, let's say an axle's worth ...
I don't think it's a leak from the cylinder, it's traces of the old oil leak from the axle before I unblocked the breather hole.
I may well be proved wrong, as usual.
At any rate the brake fluid level doesn't go down

There is a BROWN trace under the cylinder on your TOP picture, and the trailing edge of the bottom shoe has contamination

What`s the other side like?.

Anyway, how quickly do you need the shoes for the Test?.

Is the cable set up correctly?, who did it?. :w
There is a specific way of doing the back brakes and they work well when this is done :D

Hm, I still think it is traces of old contamination from the axle leak, it was BAD.
Hang on, I've photos somewhere 8)

I don't know who installed the cable, I've only adjusted it, but the brakes were working ok until recently.

Brake shoes arrived this morning, thanks Mark.
I got one side fitted, with the usual inconveniences -
I jacked the car up, took off the wheel, then remembered my arc light was in the pit ... under the car.
So I went and pinched my son's from his workshop store.
I cleaned and painted the brake, forgot to take a pic but perhaps the second one will be even prettier.
Then I tried to put the drum back, the brake shoes were much wider than the drum.
Of course the hand brake was adjusted up fully - both sides.
And the other side was not accessible.
So I disconnected the handbrake cable.
It was still a struggle, I sanded off the rusty edge of the drum and chamfered the liners.
Aligned it carefully, then pressed it on with my feet, back braced against the garage wall.
Someone will now tell me an easy way to do it, no doubt 8)

For the electric choke, wiring it up correctly has resulted in a system which works reasonably well.
It is very difficult to adjust because while you are doing it the choke and then the bloody engine heat up, negating the effect.
For future reference, the little screw hidden behind the choke adjusts the cold fast-idle speed and turning the round body clockwise increases the bimetallic spring effect so the choke butterflies stay open and the fast-idle stays on the cam longer.

Epilogue - apparently the Chronopost site has been pirated because I received a call from a foreign gentleman who said that because the delivery of the package from Mark was half an hour late (it wasn't) I had a right to a refund. He didn't get as far as asking for my bank details and account codes before I hung up

Bloody hell Chris you don`t half make things difficult.
Before Fitting the shoes one must back off all cables and shoe adjusters, and these shoes are new so larger than the old ones this is why they need bedding in after fitting.
I have not yet had notification of the delivery?.

Shoe adjusters? Is that the square shaft sticking out of the back?
It's so long since I touched a brake drum I've forgotten.
I did think to slacken off the cable - but couldn't.

Delivery was 11h50 french time, they advised 11h30 - 12h30 so spot on.
The foreign gentleman obviously had my phone number and name from the site of Chronopost who handled the delivery at this end.
But 1/ Chronopost would never ring anyone to offer them a refund
2/ I didn't pay the postage, you did 8) , have they offered you a refund?
3/ the package wasn't delivered late

The 1/4" shaft sticking out the back IS the adjuster, slacken it off before attempting fitting new shoes

:?: :?: :?: indeed !
I could possibly be in the Chronopost database ?
It seems they have a serious security problem, must remember never to pay them with a bank card.

I wondered what the square shaft was for (but only noticed it when it was too late).
The second side should be easy
