Coupes de l'Age d'Or (Dijon, 03-05 Jun '16)

Post by tanuki » Sun Nov 15, 2015 11:29 am

Hello,
As we did this year at Montlhery, our club English Rencart is willing to host Scimitar owners on our club area at next year's event 8)
I have thus sent an invitation this morning to the french scimitarists and I am extending this invitation to any RSSOC member here who would fancy attending the Coupes de l'Age d'Or in Dijon
As far as we have been told by Peter Auto, our club should have a reserved area within the circuit's main area, close to the paddocks by the look of it
Should anyone be interested in joining us, please PM me !
Cheers,
Fred (on behalf of Scimitar France)

I have been to this event several times, it's a magnificent revival of circuit racing as it used to be forty or fifty years ago. Peter Auto took it over from the previous organisers last year, and their organisation is very professional . The reserved parking areas for clubs are indeed right in the midst of all the action , and you can wander freely round the paddock areas , but if you don't have a club pass you haven't a hope in hell of getting your car inside the enclosures, no-matter what you are driving! The Prenois circuit is very interesting and picturesque with good spectator facilities , restaurants, bars, grandstands, etc.

Hello Fred et ami's

Do you have any updates for Dijon?
We plan to be in Charolles for that week and ourlocal ex pat English and Dutch friends are very keen to attend.
Is it possible that their MG's might be part of the English Rencart attendees?

Sadly I don't think either my 5A or SS1 will be up to the trip.
Also with so much going here on we will have to miss Classic Days Magny Cours in May

Cheers
John

Hello John,

I have just sent a reminder to all french scimitarists about the event.
For the time being, there are 4 of us enrolled .. the same team as at the Classic Days of last year:
- Ian Lambert & Candy
- Fred Hermand & Brownie
- Patrice Beauchant & Aubergine
- myself & Custard/The Flying Sub - most likely unless Purple whimpers  -

I will ask the club if it is possible to host a bunch of MGs, we'll talk it over at our annual meeting this coming week-end
How many cars would that be ?
Hope to meet you again this year - with or without a Scimitar/SS1 - !!

Will get back to you as soon as I have fresh news from Peter Auto and English Rencart

Cheers,
Fred

Hi Fred

Many thanks

My friends have a Midget and and an MGB, both registered in the 71 Soane et Loire region.
Being retired ex pats they are now spending a month in the Spanish sun and avoiding any Burgundy frost or snow!

We will definitely be there but it would be great to be part of the Rencart group.
I await your news via the forum or a PM

Merci
John

Hello everyone,

A little update about the organization of this event ... things are progressing (slowly but surely as the saying goes)

The registration procedure is still a bit obscure on their website, but according to the information obtained through the club
it looks like any vehicle granted access to club areas will have to be registered through the club ... fair enough, the president
of our club is frequently in contact by email & phone with the organizing team at Peter Auto, phew.
This is fortunate because the event is theoretically reserved to pre '66 cars, but of course also open to a known list of other
more recent classic cars or 'cars or exception' - e.g TVRs or Caterhams all welcome regardless of age -

Today our president raised the case of the Scimitars, and after the secretary/liaison officer - a nice lady - went suddenly silent upon hearing the
words Scimitar and Reliant ... our president ended talking directly to Mr Peter Auto himself - well, whatever his real name is ... he is
the boss organizing the event 8) - Now for a bit of a funny note - let's take it this way  - I almost choked when our president reported to me
the reaction of Mr Peter Auto (himself): "Scimitar ? Reliant ? never heard about it :? those are not english cars, are you sure ?"
    :bh

Oh well, it looks like we still have a long way to go to promote the make in this country :?
But the good point is they accepted us after all, which should give them a chance to learn a little bit more about the British Car History
- gee, I forgot to tell our president to mention about HRH Princess Anne !! -

Stay tuned for more news, but at least we've got 5 Scimitars enrolled at the event

Fred

Bravo, Fred! :hurrah: :hurrah: Now you can understand my frustration at being refused admission because they didn't recognise the RSSOC! Anyway, we won't open that Pandora's box again, suffice to say I will be there both days, come tempest or fludd, - would you like me to bring my portable chapiteau de jardin along? It takes about three minutes to erect or to stow away , and would provide a modicum of shelter for people and food/beer in case of a sudden downpour.
Incidentally, which campsite have you chosen? Would you like me to make a recce?
Ian.
