Impact Adhesive removal

Post by philhoward » Thu Jul 23, 2015 8:05 pm

Probably 3 years too late - but has anyone any ideas on removing some "overspray" of impact adhesive from the paintwork? Leftovers from when I was fitting the headlining.

I think it's cellulose paint (sprayed 20 years ago and never flatted by the looks of it) - do I risk some wet 1500 grit and get some G3 or the like on it?

I tried "something" (may have been meths) and the cloth turned body colour.. It was only on a small section so I left it.

I removed some from when I did the headlining with panel wipe but was relatively fresh

Sticky stuff remover - Betterware sell it, and probably others.

Paint brush cleaner worked for me, but I'd try on a non-visible area first.

Try tar and Glue remover. Then clay. A de-nibber followed by refining with an abrasive compound. Before resorting to wet-sanding where you don't know how much paint depth you have to work with.

I will be bringing my ultrasonic gauge to Curborough if you can wait that long!

Give me a call if you'd like to talk anything through.

It does scrape off with a fingernail but still leaves a trace.

Cheers Rich - I'll be at Curbs then you can see what a mess I've made
