Can anyone advise an effective way to remove the grey/white 'tarnish' from the alloy trim strips above the rubber bumpers on these cars? Is it oxidisation getting under the lacquer?
Thanks
Alex.

It's anodising and really hard work to polish out. I painted mine satin black and I think they look cool.

The original finish isn't lacquer - they're anodised. That means they are difficult to restore. See this thread and this other thread

The anodising is a right pain.
I took a full set to my local company and they relieved me of £40 just to strip it back, they looked crap and told me they could not Re anodise them unless I got them mirror polished.
IF I had got them mirror polished it would have been easier to get them clear lacquered rather than spend another £60 on silver anodising.

I'd have them powder coated if I had another 6 type car.
