Replacement front seats

Post by pmallinson » Tue Aug 06, 2019 6:52 pm

I have read that early xjs front seats fit nicely into se6a and gtc's ?
Has anyone done this or indeed fitted other type seats? Can anyone advise if the mount points and distance between seat rails are the same,

Replacement front seats

I fitted MGB GT seats to Barbaras SS1by modifying the seat frames to fit the existing seat runners. That way it means the original seats can go back without any problems.Oh yes the dimensions of the MG seats are the same as my seats in the GTC.

If the purchase of the Se4 that I'm after goes through (should know by the end of next week) that has some MX5 seats in it, the same as those shown above. I will be selling those as I will either transfer the MX5, black leather ones from my TR4 or use the originals that are being sold with the Se4. MX5 seats very comfortable though, can recommend them. Recline and tip. Mike.

Just wonder why you are wanting to change the seats?

Both the seat and back are independent covers and are not at all difficult to remove from the frames/foam for renewal/refurbishing. They are held onto the frame by push on clips. The underneath diaphragm that takes your weight is only hooked on to the frame and can be renewed either with a rubber one or dunlop type strips (look at mgbehive web page). The foam can also be renewed (but a bit more difficult to cut to shape).
The old panels can be used as pattern for cutting out new material.....it is quite likely only the velour bits are bad while the surrounding side panels are ok. Worth thinking about the cost of a good second hand sewing machine.....light industrial type would do (£80 ish?) or even heavy duty home machine.
Carefully not being sexist here but does wife's skill set or your's include sewing? :)
