Hi all

I had been suspecting for some time there were metal mice at work beneath the Tub so i made up a secondary frame to fit internally ( not a roll cage ) but after struggling to pick up the seat belt Anchorage and a large pile of rust debris appearing i desided to dive in .

Here is a photo (not a very good one but the only one I have) of the plate at the bottom of the tube that has two bolts through it that you cant see as they are down in the cavity, one in the side rail and the other rear wheel side of the chassis cross tube. The bolt you can see in the plate is the seatbelt bolt that holds the inertia real, the other one secures the end of the seatbelt. I bought my plates from QRG.

Terry, my 6a had the threaded holes that (in your photo) have the bolt going through the floorpan to the chassis crossmember. However, the seatbelt end is mounted further forward in the side member....the holes were just left empty. I wonder if mine was a later amendment as it's a 79 car.

Incidently, when I looked at the original plate mounting the inertia reel belt, I was concerned about it's rigidity, so made up a twisted plate in 5mm stainless that connects between the two bolts shown, thereby giving a belt and braces to the seatbelt and the rollover bar mounts.

It could be as mine was a 1976 SE6 so a much earlier model.

The plate at the bottom of the stiffening hoop (it's not meant to be a roll over bar) goes down inside the fiberglass sill then the two bolts go through the plate inside the sill and then through the side rail in front of the cross tube and behind the cross tube which is in front of the rear wheel. Hope this helps

did you cut the hole using an axe?

Reliant called it a rollover bar in all the brochures I've got! But I agree, it would be about as effective as a standard land rover roof, and I've experienced what happens to them in Africa before we got wise😂

Grinder actually, and the edges are neat and follow the contour of the floor down the wheel arch and across the top of the sill removing just enough to put the plate in and weld it to the bar. Good enough for me as I'm far from an expert.

Just re-read an Autocar road test from 76 and the only fault they dwelled on was that the seatbelt mounting seemed to be too far back and the cross belt was in the wrong position, so perhaps it was changed later. Be interesting to find when it happened?
