Chassis prep

Post by Clueless1 » Sun May 12, 2019 5:50 pm

Hi all, I’m currently cleaning off the chassis of my SS1, galvanised, and was wondering if I would be better off just cleaning off the muck and painting it. It’s very solid with at least 95% of the galv still intact. My first thoughts were to have it blasted and re galvanised, too expensive, or to have it blasted, powder coated in zinc rich coat then blacked. Now I’m wondering if I’d be better off just treating the small amount of surface rust at each end of the sills with something like Hammerite kurust then painting with a decent chassis paint.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on this?
Cheers

Remove the rust mechanically, prep and paint with epoxy primer and if you wish, a topcoat of your choice.

I’d wire brush and hydrate 80 (kurust is a cheaper version) and etch prime before top coat.
