SS1 seized engine update

Post by binlicker » Fri Nov 09, 2018 5:46 pm

Hello, I managed to free the engine, but as posted earlier it was shot.[rust pitting in one of the bores] What I would like to know is which block is compatible with a 1600, 1988 lean burn head. Serial number 86SM6090. I intend to transfer all the original bits to the new block, just a straight swop I hope. Steve

SS1 seized engine update

For a lean burn setup you need the matching set of head and bottom end - so one from a Mk4 or possibly a Mk5 Escort (non-injection) if going out on the open market.

If we are considering the bottom end as a whole. Otherwise it's just the pistons that are different

So if I sourced a bare block I could I could transfer the pistons and crank and then renew rings and shells provided the block was standard. Steve

If you have a good standard block I can get it picked up, my son lives in Bristol and I would more than trust your expertise in selection. I have one sickly car to my name and look at you so many cars you have to give them names it's like having an extended family. :D Joking aside I would be grateful for your help.Steve

I’ll have a check tomorrow - I think I have 5 or 6 spare running CVH in various states and at least one other without a head fitted. I work in Bristol a couple of days a week.

I have a brand new set of CVH 1.6 Lean Burn pistons, standard size, still in original box.
Are they are of any interest?

John

Hello John, Thanks for the offer but I'am hoping the pistons that are in are OK. The fault lies with the block. The motor has only done 34000 miles but as been stood a number of years. If your in no hurry to sell, if I need them I will get in touch. Thanks again Steve
