Yes, that does sound a lot easier, as you're taking the engine and box out. When I did it, I was just replacing a broken speedo cable, so didn't have that option. I guess it might be worth thinking about whether to change the cable while you've got everything out, depending on what its condition looks like?

The cable looks good but I will have a better idea once I get the circlip out.
