1982 GTC project gumtree

Pretty sure it's the diff, we lifted the back end and found wheels turning (opposite directions) but pinion not - with the propshaft disconnected. So it must be the pinion or crown wheel that's gone wrong. I think!

1982 GTC project gumtree

Thanks for all your congratulations, however keep the champagne in the fridge because as I set out on the maiden voyage the diff seized up! Yes it did! Recovered home and the investigations will begin once I've figured out how to drag the hulk from the side of the road back into the garage. Going to...

1982 GTC project gumtree

Well that's that. GTC 358 is back on the road after a 24-year layoff, tested this morning and SUCCESS!! One bank of cylinders was running very rich but we put that down to a dirty plug and used the other bank's figures. Just want to thank everyone who's contributed to the thread, in particular Tinke...

Windscreen transport Wiltshire-North

Thank you both for your offers. I deliberately left the details vague to 'catch' as many offers as possible, the idea was to firm up the geography once I'd heard. Anyhoo I have the screen, I made other arrangements after I saw that the post had been deleted from 'Wanted' - thought I must have infrin...

SE6a Wiper "Wheel Boxes"

Just had a thought - isn't the tall rubber the one for the rear wiper? That would also explain why you got an oval washer which I don't think applies to the front. So Matt may be right that he's sold lots..... I don't have a part number for the item, from the parts book it seems to come as part of t...

SE6a Wiper "Wheel Boxes"

Send a photo to GW and see what they say!
I'm a bit worried by the subject as I need a pair for the GTC. Plenty on eBay but all for Minis and MGBs

Cruise control

Interesting stuff. I'll give it a try if I find a quiet bit of road, otherwise I might need it when right foot gets cramp from being too long in one position. I've been known to use the left foot on the throttle in the past!!

Cruise control

Been given a loan of a car with cruise control. My question is whether CC is likely to be more economocal on a long motorway drive than my Scimitar-trained right foot on the throttle?

Windscreen transport Wiltshire-North

Hello, bit of a long shot! I've been offered a windscreen by a gentleman on here (you know who you are, Drew!) but I'm having trouble arranging transport for it. It's a bit far for me to collect, and regular couriers won't touch windscreens, so I'm wondering if anyone is planning a trip between Trow...

Idling mixture

Due to a senior moment I started the GTC's engine without setting the autochoke. Does this mean that the idle mix is a bit rich? 2.8 Cologne engine with a Weber 38DGAS.
Or is it just the warm weather?

Steering not centering after new rack

This may be a red herring but when I was changing steering wheels on mine I didn't get the indicator cancelling ring quite lined up with the prongs on the shaft and that made the wheel noticeably hard to turn, so that I had to centre by hand if you see what I mean.

SE5 Heater Matrix bolts

I replaced those with 6mm studding bent to a right angle so they didn't rotate then nuts from below.
