Part 15 is a hook which goes into bracket 39 on the body and is fixed by the thumbscrew. My one has a slightly different arrangement, the hook has a thread on the top and a wingnut which can pull the whole thing down tight on to the body.

The seat base is held by 2 screws on the floor in front beside the seat belt reels. You'll probably find a large hole in the sill behind the front wheel which lets the water in to rot the kick panels. I've plugged mine. Also besides the usual leaky places there is a hole under each side window which...

I'm going to the workshop tomorrow so I'll ask if any cracks were found under the paint. No mention so far. Where I had to do repairs, as on the bootlid where a luggage rack had been, or to fill the holes for an old aerial and door mirrors, my standard practice is 2 layers of mat underneath and one ...

Squeaky rubber

I've had to go down some bumpy farm tracks recently which has shown up the squeaking and creaking from the door rubber seals. I wonderd if tyre dressing might quieten them, or has anyone any better ides?

Easily replace alternator belt Essex PAS

Ever since I had to do it on a rainy day I've been annoyed that replacing the alternator belt on an Essex engine fitted with a PAS pump means removing the PAS belt. So when I was changing the cam drive on mine I had a brainwave. With both belts off I placed a new alternator belt on the front engine ...

I'm afraid my nerves can't take the strain any longer of waiting for the current wheel to go bang so I've ordered one from QRG. So you can take me off the list and move everyone else up a spot.

Is it on the base, or the back? Base is easy, if you get it out of the car you'll find the ends of the string which holds the button in place, just untie and remove. You may need a new length of string as they're only just long enough (trimmed after installation) and so hard to re-tie. I haven't inv...

The rear seats are now installed, and I notice that the backs sit up straighter (less reclined) than on the SE6a. Is this a design feature to allow the hood to lie behind them I wonder, or have I got something else wrong?
