Windscreen fitting

Well the car arrived with the narrow-strip type, although that may have been a replaced screen in the past. Nigel at QRG seemed pretty sure that the GTC and Middlebridge had the narrow strip too. But I must agree that most images on't Web show the 6 type! Aargh! I'll have a go at the seal-first meth...

Washer bottle

In need of a washer bottle for a GTC, with the pump in the base and a single outlet. One with two pumps (GTE style) could be made to suit!

Windscreen fitting

I'm toiling to refit the windscreen to the GTC. I've done a couple of SE5 ones in the past but the C item seems to be another kettle of fish. The rubber is the type with a narrow plastic infill strip, not the wide stainless type like a 6a. The trouble is that when I start pulling the string around t...

Stainless GTC Door mirrors ?

This is the thread about XJS mirror wiring http://www.scimitarweb.co.uk/sgwrs/viewtopic.php?t=36768 Depending on whether I decide to go stainless or body colour I may have a pair spare in a few weeks as the rebuild continues. They come up regularly on auction sites, used generally around £50 a pair,...

Ians GTC rebuild

Unless you're doing other work it's not absolutely necessary to take the engine out. I stripped around it and the painter masked the rest -

Brake fail switch

Viewers of a sensitive nature may want to skip the next bit... I decided to see if I could 'modify' the thread on the black switch to suit. I filed a gnat's off the tops of the threads and then turned and pushed it into the M/C body until the cylinder body caught the plastic and cut it to fit. Quite...

Unleaded Cologne

I've been rereading old Slices and seen a couple of letters about unleaded heads on Cologne engines, possibly identified by a D or E stamped or cast on. Nobody seemed to know if this was true or not in 2002, does anyone now?

1982 GTC project gumtree

Found the earth gremlin, a bit different from the usual dirty connectors. The earth wire coming from LHS to RHS is split into 2 ends, and I'd managed to connect them together and deprive the lights of their share.... all fixed now. Just in the midst of replacing the webbing under the hood which some...

It already did, which is why Ronnie is now banned. A great loss to the club, given his creativity and practical knowledge.

Brake grease

Hi
Is there any practical difference between red and green brake grease, or is it just down to manufacturers' preference?

1982 GTC project gumtree

Thanks Dennis That's exactly how I remembered the braid route, but one of the holes in the braid just didn't line up. So I created another. This is the second time that strange things have happened in the rebuild. The first was when I took the centre dashboard out to replace some of the wee lightbul...

Brake fail switch

Steve It sounds like your brass switch was spot on, its job is to provide a fixed live contact which can only be earthed by the shuttle valve moving one way or t'other and hitting the contact. Obviously the plastic body does the insulating in the standard switch. The two plug contacts are only to pr...
