1982 GTC project gumtree

 Red face time! I decided to have a look at the innards, drain plug out followed by 2 DROPS of oil. Why I didn't ever check the level I shall never know. Although to be fair some of my mechanically-minded mates have said that even without oil an axle should run (noisily) for a bit more than a ...

When do you think you might come? I'm not always around. I tried to email you but your account seems to be deactivated?

I got the pinion nut off, which was VERY tight, and removed the flange, which was also unwilling to come off, and the diff now turns although feels very rough. pinion bearings fritzed I think. So I'm going to blame whoever put it together for overtightening things!
Anyone got a surplus axle?

Awkward Aerial

Thanks for all the suggestions, including the fowl language! I want to keep/replace the powered aerial, such things were the height of luxury when I was starting to be interested in cars. I'll keep on poking around. Any ideas about the elusive fuse? ISTR seeing a fuseholder in the area of the radio ...

Awkward Aerial

My electric aerial is playing up, but not down! My test lamp shows power on the blue/red wire to the aerial whether the radio is on or off, but no power on the blue/white one, on or off. If I run a separate 12v supply to the blue/white cable I can hear a relay clicking inside the aerial housing but ...

Also just found 5 rolls of the glazing strip for the rear hatch! (1st July) Isn't it odd how there are always bits left over after a job? I have some after the resurrection of the GTC, but they're suitable for other models - Pair Jaguar XJS electric mirrors, chrome plated, they are the same style bu...

I have a problem with my back axle so may need a diff. I can arrange transport if it comes to it. Could also use the glovebox,
I'll be in touch once I've got my courage up to look at the axle!

Pretty sure it's the diff, we lifted the back end and found wheels turning (opposite directions) but pinion not - with the propshaft disconnected. So it must be the pinion or crown wheel that's gone wrong. I think!

Thanks for all your congratulations, however keep the champagne in the fridge because as I set out on the maiden voyage the diff seized up! Yes it did! Recovered home and the investigations will begin once I've figured out how to drag the hulk from the side of the road back into the garage. Going to...
