The 4 speed non overdrive is up to the job and two input shaft length are available
The type 9 can be weak
The cossie box is strong and light

I have a couple of 4 speed boxes here I’m not using if it helps

XK120 had drum brakes but most models after as you rightly say are discs all round

Try E36 318i as it has rear drum brakes
Likely to be a huge job to be honest

Surely the weight of the clutch is determined by the effort required to overcome the spring pressure on the pressure plate , and in turn , the relationship of the pedal ratio to the clutch master/slave bore combination ?

If the relay is clicking then it’s getting a switch supply but it’s not outputting a current
