Unfortunately I had a bit of an electrical problem today. Alot of smoke came out of the wires due to a short somewhere behind the dash - So it's all had to be stripped out. These old Lucas wiring systems are messy to say the least but will be fixed shortly. However While I am in here I wonder about ...

Good point about not necessarily needing bent arms. I was thinking primarily of Mini hubs but on those the arms are mounted on top of the hub rather than on the back. Bottom line is new steering arms could be made to suit. I would not have thouhgt Taper should be a real problem to a machine shop but...

You mean SS1 mirrors? Yes but arn't those also old and difficult to get? Luckily I was out-bid on the MGF ones that I realised are intended to go though the corner of the window rather than on a pillar mounted on the door - and thus would have been too low. I am now wondering about Fiat 500 electric...

Isn't Ackerman angle determined by steering arms having a bend in them, acting in an over-centre manner that is then different left and right? Many cars seem to have bent arms but the Scimitar ones are pretty much straight. If I'm right it should be no problem to get new shorter ones made with a cra...

Problem iseither original SE6b or XJS whatever are going to be old and difficult to find. The motivation on mine s that the passenger side actual glass was hopeless and even with a slightly dodgy cut mirror replacement is difficult to adjust not only because it's far away but also because the adjust...

I didn't know that SE6s ever had electric mirrors. Anyone know where to get some? My Capri style cable operated ones are a bit poor and before my upcoming respray I wondered about changing them for motorised types. On the other hand almost all modern cars seem to have them so maybe something new cou...

Which is why the stops are fitted to the non PAS cars, but not the PAS ones, The throw of the PAS rack is obviously less and so I wonder if the lock could be improved with shorter steering arms. Even with non PAS racks because the stops limit the throw they reduce the turns lock to lock number and s...

PAS definitely makes the car feel more modern and the main reason is to reduce the turns lock to lock while remaining easy on the muscles. However on Scimtars another issue is turning circle which is huge and makes parking tricky. This is due to limited throw on the rack, or at least it is on the PA...

After procuring about 8 different belts I can now confirm that the PAS belt, going onto the larger of the crankshaft pulleys needs to be 1107mm. Unfortunately there is almost no adjustment so it needs to be pretty exact and required a screwdriver to lever it on Works better at low engine speeds / ma...

I've now been driving my car! Ive never driven or even been driven in a Scimitar before! Passed the MOT a couple of weeks ago and liking it so far. Very pleased I fitted PAS although I've got a temporary return pipe (it was M16/1.5 in the end) I shall drive it like this for a little while, checking ...

Rattly Bonnet? The Bonnet of my SE6a seems to rattle internally. Am i right in thinking they put a layer of metal mesh inside? I imagine this will be a cause of unnecessary road noise irritation. So I was thinking of drilling a couple of holes in the underside ribs and injecting with builders foam. ...
