Tappet adjustment query

Thanks for those. I'm aware of the possible uneven wear situation (that diagram pretty good actually). I used to run A Series Minis and there was this automatic adjuster that relied on the thread pitch to get the true gap, but it doesnt seem to work for these engines because the adjustment is only o...

Tappet adjustment query

Idle speed a bit high possibly. It sounds no better at lower idles speed though. Whole engine is standard as far as I know. I'm not sure what you mean about flat rockers? All adjusted using feeler gauge and making sure to wiggle the tappet to get max clearance. Sounds a bit like one tappet on the rig...

Tappet adjustment query

I've now had several goes at adjusting my tappets but it's still quite noisy. But I'm new to these engines so I don't really know what to expect. It's all standard as far as I know A video link from drop box will let you hear.. (i wonder whether this will work...) https://www.dropbox.com/s/00nr5mne9...

I re-found this thread https://www.scimitarweb.co.uk/sgwrs/vie ... hp?t=17413
which I think shows that the long lever is on the right and the short one is on the left

Having dismantled the heater box for derusting painting and flushing of the matrix I find I m unsure how the operating levers go back on I am talking about the two anodised/brassy looking machined things on the side of the box. They are different lengths and I do not know which is which! The positio...

No it's just like this. I think it's supposed to plug into part of the cowling, but it wasn't

A bit more forensics regarding my wiring issue. Since the earth wire from the ignition switch light is burnt all the way to the bulb holder, I now strongly suspect that it was the bulb holder itself that made contact with the main ignition switch 12V feed from the battery. Of course thoutside of tha...

Thinking about it some more and wondering why no fuses blew. I think that what happened was that the *earth* wire for the ignition switch light shorted onto the main ignition switch feed from the battery when I reaffixed the column cowl. So the circuit went straight to the large earth point near the...

While I'm' in here Ive taken the heater box out. I could see some rusty bits of vent outlet in the footwell which had been annoying me so I thought i'd give it all a bit of a clean up and a lick of paint. Nasty: the whole thing is full of rust flakes, rusty dust and scabby bits. So quite while was s...

Yep the dash top is out. Which means I can tidy my additional wiring quite a bit. Not that was what responsible for my electrical issue. Nooo that was caused by the wire for the ignition switch light which shorted on the underside of the column when I reattached the shroud. I can now recycle 3foot o...

Thankyou Scimjim. While it's as apart as it is right now I might take it right out and re-cover the top.

I'm also mulling whether the heater box might accept an aircon heat exchanger. Project Binky Ep 17 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7aZzkqLtFM did alot of this

Thanks for that, Good to know I did it right! (earlier this eve before seeing this) And now to tidy the wiring and smarten up the heat box itself. Not sure if the heater rad is any good or not - I can blow though it so it's not actually blocked, but is that enough? Another thing id still like to kno...
