Oil additives

Halfords Classic Oil is a bit low on zinc content for older engines; I've attached an article I sent in to Slice courtesy of Southern Classic Cars.
IMHO better to use the right oil, as Mark says.

Reports on modern fuels in old cars and symptoms caused

As the article says, there's much to follow up on, I await further articles with interest. It would be interesting if they extended the tests to include fuel additives to see if they fulfil the promise of stabilising the ethanol content. Even with these problems identified, there's not much hope (IM...

My thanks to Manny too, for the link.
Haven't finished reading the article yet (got to go out) but will later. Fascinating, explains a lot to me.

Front hub bearing replacement

Hi Dennis, Thanks for the bearing details - I'm planning to service my front hubs so this info could prove very useful. These came in the post yesterday; ought to fit easily but I wonder what dimension you'd like at one end of the spacer? I can measure these if you like and see how much metal remain...

SS1 1800 CVH Project Carb queries

If the original screw fits the carb then re-use it, the newer taper is different and IMHO will make tick-over difficult to set up.

Isn't there a fuel filter underneath the banjo in the carb itself? there is on the DCOEs so there might be on yours.

Radio turns off while idiling

You could try running an independent live feed direct from the battery (via a fuse) to see if this eliminates the issue; if it doesn't make any difference then I'd suspect internal mechanical problems with the stereo on/off switch (vibrations at tick-over, smooth operation when cruising).
