The popular subject of non starting Ti's

Was just thinking, does anyone else think that the subject of Ti starting deserves it's own area/topic/sticky/something within the forum? It has become a very popular topic of late, and a centralised store of information might be useful for the poor souls who will invariably go through the same pain...

Ti starting

maybe silly question, but does the throttle butterfly close properly? Note, at the throttle there's an idle speed control pot that provides a gradual drop in (lower) revs when you take your foot off the throttle. Check it's functioning OK. And I there's a small screw to adjust when the pot is activ...

MOT passed today! Straight through. No advisories. Happy chap! :D Turns out the mechanic trained at our local (now closed) Reliant garage (where I used to take my old 5A), so had plenty of experience with fibreglass cars, though mainly 3 wheelers, I think. (The garage I used for MOT is Esplanade Car...

More Ti starting woes

Hadn’t touched the car for a week, not since I drained the tank then refilled with good fuel (and it still didn’t start.) Today it started on first attempt (which is great) but I don’t know what changed (which is not so good.) I’ll just keep trying it the next few days and see If it continues to sta...

Well, no joy. Extracted pretty much all of the contents of the tank through the sender hole. Refilled with good fuel. Same result. Turning but not firing. Not even a hint of a fire. Still sparking ok. Timing is good. Fuel pump pumping. Still makes me think it’s a fuel problem, but no clue what. Or c...

IS it not possible to siphon fuel out via the filler with a long-enough flexible pipe (and a pump)?
I wondered the same, so I tried it yesterday. No joy - the internal structure of the tank must somehow prevent it. Pipe didn’t even get wet. Unless there’s a knack to it.

I'll be having a go at this tomorrow. Is there a knack to removing the sender unit? Does it just turn then pull out?

Thanks Phil. So it shouldn’t be necessary to drain the tank completely? If I can pump the water out from the bottom of the tank, that should be enough?

Hadn't thought of that, but it does sound likely. There was certainly heavy rain on Monday night and Tuesday, and the car was sitting out in it. A case of emptying the tank? How's best to do it. Is syphoning best, or disconnect pipe at tank? And then the drain holes at fuel cap will also need checke...

It was all going so well. Car has been starting on the button since replacing the crank angle sensor in October. Not much use over the Winter, though regularly started. Have been making more use of it in the last 2 weeks, using it for the commute to work 4 times, filling up with £20 worth of fuel on...

Ti wiper problem

It was indeed the park switch. Just a note for anyone else needing to replace it - try and get the genuine Lucas part (which is WHB101 by the way). The first one I ordered (from ebay) was of very poor quality. Cheap plastic, didn't even seem to fit together properly. And when trying to fit, it broke...
