Re: Joe's Scimitar 1972 GTE 5a Restoration

This threads due an update or two I think, Having glassed in the new A posts we moved on to working on the new sills, I've seen other repairs mentioned on the forum that just replaced steel with fibreglass but personally thought that there would be too great a compromise in terms of strength rigidit...

Re: Joe's Scimitar 1972 GTE 5a Restoration

What condition were the trailing arm brackets on the axle in? Pretty much the same as yours! the top is fine but the lower section has been filled with cement sometime in the distant past which has just speeded up the rust  current plan is to fabricate replacements (or get them from QRG when ...

Re: Joe's Scimitar 1972 GTE 5a Restoration

A shiny new pair or TR6 stub axles, bearings and brake discs have also been ...

Re: Joe's Scimitar 1972 GTE 5a Restoration

Just a quick update, the body is now off without any major incidents! and I've had the first chance to look at the condition of the chassis top. Generally its in fairly good condition (better than I'd hoped judging but some of the other photos I've seen.) Though there are quite a few areas to sort o...

Re: Joe's Scimitar 1972 GTE 5a Restoration

Seems like ages since I updated this thread, After putting up a post about looking for the fiberglass sections my car was missing I was fortunate to be put in contact with John Valler (Cheers Geoff) who had a body shell that was fairly local and that he was looking to dispose of. Fortunately John wa...

Re: Joe's Scimitar 1972 GTE 5a Restoration

Finally sorted out the photos of the recent work, Car out in the daylight, (it went onto the stands under its own power) http://www.industrialbritain.co.uk/forumstuff/scim/44.jpg I had the car up with the intention of laying new copper brake lines but realised I'd lost a vital die from the flaring k...

Re: Joe's Scimitar 1972 GTE 5a Restoration

Spent the day digging a bit deeper into the rollbar corrosion problem and cut out 2 sections of the fibreglass to expose the good metal. The bottom section of the rollbar has been given to a mate whos going to fabricate up some replacements, Looking at them it doesn't look like it was ever painted w...

Re: Joe's Scimitar 1972 GTE 5a Restoration

Just a quick update - The engine is now running, Spent yesterday playing with the engine and despite changing HT leads and dismantling the carb could only get her to run by pumping the throttle therefore dumping petrol out the aceleration jets into the manifold. It ran ok at high revs but misfired &...
