Tips on electrical fault when starting? Before I take it all apart...

Aha. Getting somewhere. A run over the fuses revealed a couple that weren't happy, but not (I think) directly relevant to starting. Nice to see the clock turn back on! Need to buy a big bag of fuses; that's something for me to do. From a reputable supplier rather than eBay special. Anyway, unscrewed...

Tips on electrical fault when starting? Before I take it all apart...

Fiddling with the light switch doesn't activate the lights, although it does make the little panel next to the heater knob light up. Which is interesting. Although I'm sure someone else here once saw it do that and remarked that theirs had never done such a thing and they didn't even know it could l...

Tips on electrical fault when starting? Before I take it all apart...

Hello all. When starting the SS1 today, it didn't start. Well, these things happen. Pretty sure it's an electrical issue, and probably a connection fault, based on the following: When turning the key in the barrel to position I, nothing happens. No dashboard lights, none of that. When turning the ke...

Re: What's the deal with this spark plug? (Not from a Scimit

I can confirm that the judicious use of a pair of pliers does loosen the standard hour-glass shaped connector, allowing me to connect instead this funny looking thing. Perfect fit. Now I just hope I didn't permanently damage whatever lead ending it's meant to screw into...

Re: What's the deal with this spark plug? (Not from a Scimit

Okey dokey. I'll have a more careful look at the lead in daylight. With any luck, the protective hoods can be removed and I can get a decent look at the actual wire.

Re: What's the deal with this spark plug? (Not from a Scimit

The leads are definitely Suzuki original; Suzuki name clearly visible and with part number clearly marked.

Or at least, the outside bits of them that I can see are...

Re: What's the deal with this spark plug? (Not from a Scimit

Looks like a DIY to me
Some joker, having somehow lost the connector for this plug, ramming this into place instead? I think at least one of the other plugs has something similar, but I'll check all four when there's daylight.

Re: What's the deal with this spark plug? (Not from a Scimit

I do not know. The leads have what looks like a pretty ordinary plastic cap to me; it's a 1980 Suzuki GS550L, and the leads just push on and off. Maybe these plugs are for a bike with the wire wrapped around, but can be used in simple push-on leads as well.

What's the deal with this spark plug? (Not from a Scimitar)

Hello all. This is not about scims, but it is about spark plugs! Hoping someone here simply has the wider experience to tell me what's going on. On the subject of general technical discussion, I am half-way through a long overdue maintenance on a motorbike engine, and I took out a spark plug. The en...

Re: But does it charge?

Sunset has beaten me; an hour plugged into the wall returned the battery to a state suitable for starting the engine, but all I could do was drive it into the garage. I'll get out there when I've got daylight and have a look. I reckon checking the voltage across it while running is a good start; 13v...

But does it charge?

Hello all. Having finally got the SS1 out and given it a decent run around, I'm suspicious about the battery being charged - in that, I'm not sure it is. Having run around for an hour, I let it sit for thirty minutes (at which point, I should say, the fan would have been running to cool the engine, ...

Fan seized

Hello all. It's awfully cold out. I think the fan in the SS1 might have seized up. Before I start my trouble-shooting technique (which will begin with tapping it lightly with a hammer and move to thumping it with a hammer before finally biting the bullet and taking it out), are there any simple gotc...

An MOT pass; what ARE the brake lines from?

Having lasted about a month from start to end, finally an MOT pass (the delay being getting the right parts; the actual failure points were relatively minor, just involving aged parts). The sticking point turned out to be the brake lines, whereas I thought it would be the headlamp unit replacement. ...
