Autos are very awkward. Simplest is to use a socket on the alternator nut and keep the belt taut.

Send them a sample to the head office in Aston. They will produce a matched shade for you. Keep a note of the code they give you as it will be useful for the sticky that is on the same subject.

Linkage is purely mechanical. Have a look at the operating lever linkage under the car. Perhaps drop one end off and check that the gearbox lever moves OK. I doubt that it will be a gearbox issue though.

How about going magnetic switches? Got to be more reliable than with all that crud being thrown about. You could use some simple logic using gates or diodes, but with the price of Arduino boards, there is little contest.

I can supply new from my webshop. However, why do you need the lever? They are normally transplanted from the original Pierburg if it is a GTC or SE6b.
