Castrol GTX

Hi all from OZ,

Quick question, is Castrol GTX 15 -50, suitable for an Essex? I remember using it for many years in my early Fords.

The reason for the question , is that a local supplier is offering 5Ltrs for $10.00 which equates to 5 UK pounds!!!

Worth buying????

Neil.

Lower wishbone mounting brackets.

Hi All, Does anyone know if GW or QRG stock the reinforced lower wishbone mounting brackets? ( not listed on QRG, cannot get in to GW spares!) Just discovered the front one on the drivers side is badly cracked and has virtually parted from the chassis!! I wondered what the strange noise was when goi...

Essex V6 Cooling discussion

Hi, just to add my two penerth worth! Here in Perth WA, we often get to 40c during summer. I've never had a problem with vaporization with my SE6A, and in our Fibreglassics club there are 2 TVR Tuscans which as far as I know have never suffered from the problems you are experiencing. They join us on...

Cologne 2.8 auto box.

Hi all Quick question, will a C3 gearbox, from an Essex 3ltr, fit a Cologne 2.8 engine?? Thanks in advance, Neil. Should have been more specific!! A friend of mine has purchased a Capri with a 2.8 Cologne, with a manual gearbox. He wants his wife to drive it, but she is only licensed to drive autos....

Igntion relay?

Hi mada85 A couple of photos of the ignition relay, which is definitely behind the glove box!! Why it is called the ignition relay, beats me!! The only thing it supplies power to is : Heater Fan, Windscreen Wipers, and , if you have them, electric windows. The reason I know ,was because, mine failed...

Door Lock Catcher Plate Philips Bit Size.

Hi All,
Trying to adjust my passenger door catcher plate, but a no 4 Philips bit slips when attempting to tighten up!
Anyone know what size of bit is required, to get a good grip on the screws???
Cheers Neil.
P.S. I cannot find a No5 Philips bit listed anywhere.

1979 SE6A Limited Slip Diff

Hi Jim,
Again thanks for the response!
Just been surfing the web, and I'm almost tempted to replace the LSD with standard!!
Looking at the prices being asked, I could sell the LSD, and buy another Scimitar!!!!
Crazy!!

1979 SE6A Limited Slip Diff

Hi Jim & Coupe, Thanks for the prompt replies! Definitely an LSD, confirmed by a diff specialist over here in Perth. Re your reply Jim, I thought as much, as I have the original purchase document, dated 1979, and no mention of the diff. The strange part is, every item replaced or repaired by the prev...

1979 SE6A Limited Slip Diff

Hi All, Just wondering if any of the history gurus would know if, a limited slip diff was a factory option on a new 1979 SE6A? The reason I ask is, on changing the oil in my diff, I found a metal stamped plate attached to the diff, stating that it is an LSD. On searching through the copious amounts ...

Sundym Glass

Thanks Coupe,

These faint scratches are not in the line of vision, but appear to have been caused by the bottom rubber retaining clip of the wiper arms.

I might wait for further clarification (no pun intended!!) before proceeding!!!
