Reliant Mistral Special for sale

Definitely Joe Devlin’s car in the background. I’ve emailed John Devlin to ask if he knows the date of the photo.

Reliant Mistral Special for sale

I don’t know the exact year. 1980 plus or minus 5 I would say.

Here's NRE's chassis showing the bolt in gearbox cross-member for the non-overdrive gearbox:

And here's a drawing I made for a new cross-member to accommodate the SE6a gearbox and overdrive:

The bottom ‘box is the Ford Type F 4-speed as fitted to the Sabre Six. Overdrive was an optional extra. The same basic ‘box was fitted to late SE5a, and all SE6 with the J type OD.

A bit more post high jacking,

Chris, I think, with its flanged output shaft, your gearbox is from an SE5a. The middle gearbox of the three in Philip’s earlier post is an SE6a box with a splined outfit shaft. This means that the standard prop shaft can be used.

Philip's thread of 660XYB stuff

Philip, the top gearbox in the photo is from a Straight Six coupé. I bought it with the intention of fitting it to our Sabre Six convertible. Unfortunately it wouldn’t fit between the main chassis members so I went for the middle ‘box which was from a Scimitar SE6a.
