head light circuit breaker location

I was fiddling with my car rear lights the other day the other evening and managed to trip the circuit breaker. I was testing the fog lamps with the car cover still on the front of the car. The head lamp motors stalled half up and would not motor up or down. I checked all the fuses and found a circu...

Re: Leaking fuel tank

Perhaps you still have a vented cap? There were adverse comments in magazine tests when the SS1 first appeared, about fuel leaking out in L/H corners. The inversion valve allows air to flow in and out of the tank to allow for expansion of the contents when hot, or shrinkage as they get used up. How...

Re: Leaking fuel tank

I have put the tank back in the car. It seams to be holding well. I decided bot to bother with the petseal. Both on grounds of cost and the hassle of taking out the sender and the risk of it leaking when I refit it. Improved filling the tank up with fuel. They also introduced a breather / inversion ...

Re: Leaking fuel tank

If the hole is sealed what's the need? Belt and braces really. I will probably not bother with the pet seal now. I have poked my go-pro into the tank and videoed the inside. It all nice and shiny so I think the paint on the outside should stop any more rust. The tank comes out of the car pretty eas...

Re: Leaking fuel tank

I have heard some horror stories about the original stuff turning to jelly. The stuff I found on fleebay is the ultra type.

For the right price I would still fit a good second hand tank. I can allways keep mine as a spare.

Re: Leaking fuel tank

Yes mine is the later type with breather on the near side. It had a tiny pin hole on the bottom of the off side end plate. I have managed to clean it up and put a blob of solder on it to seal it. the tank is pretty solid apart from the hole. I think I caught it just in time. I have given it a coat o...

Re: Leaking fuel tank

I will have a look and let you know. I am planning to take it out in a day or two. I guess it doesn't really matter too much. If I can only get the wrong tank I will make it fit. My car is D reg 86. Galv chassis and one wiper.

Leaking fuel tank

Does anyone have a fuel tank for a 1600 SS1 for a reasonable price, before I order some pet seal ?

Re: ignition overheating

I forgot to mention that I did finally find the problem with my ignition :) After all the trouble I had been having with ignition modules I stopped looking at the obvious. You will have noticed that I had the head off, I also had the engine out to fix the leaking sump gasket. While the engine was ou...

Re: SS1 1600 Exhaust

I know this is an old thread, but...

I need a full system for my SS1 1600. Any one know a good supplier of steel or S. steel? Or good second hand system in their shed?

SS1 weber fuel cut off valve

Hi All. I am having a little problem with my carburettor. It is the standard XR3 32/34 DFT. The anti run on solenoid failed. I have rewound it so it now works. Before repairing the solenoid the car still ticked of with it disconnected, which I found a bit odd. The tick over was a bit difficult to se...
