Isn't there a relay usually behind the dash ?
Usually a round circular item .
Not sure if it would cause this problem , I think it controlled the warning lamp

The drop between the coupe and SE5 are different I believe as the exhaust runs through the chassis on a coupe .

A lot depends on the type of starter and whether you have cast or tubular manifolds . Disconnecting the left engine mount and lifting the engine can give more space , as can removing the oil filter.
