Thanks for that Ben. Mine has snapped just after the "pig's tail" and I was wondering about the best fix. You've found it! :D

One for the next edition of Alterparts.
Why not remake the pig tail ?
I have done it successfully before

Therefore base your choice on the following in no particular...

It took three "old" hands to fit the rear glass in our Coupe - I tried and gave up after a couple of hours.
Fitted mine on my own , but it tested my patience

Knocking and a-clunking

It could be the relationship between the manifold and downpipe on a curve flange socket which will allow it to be tightened or set in a variety of positions and you can get some contact on an outrigger that already has limited clearance

Engine strip down +rebuild

I understand that the distributor needs removal first .
Get some diesel fuel and pour it around the distributor at the top and bottom where it meets the block
If it rotates then drive out from below as the sump is off
Use wood to spread the force and minimalise the damage to the distributor

Could you not do the old mechanics trick of doing the tappets whilst the engine is running and simply adjust individually until the noise just goes away. Done with the engine hot I believe?

Messy unless you get the idle very low
