GTE wanted

There is a white 5A auto coming up for sale in the NE - seller had intended putting it back on the road but bad health has stopped him - no idea what he has done or what needs doing but some years ago I did hear the engine running and saw it moving. He can be contacted at jpmcteer@hotmail.co.uk

Beast is the right word we run both our tI's at 160 bhp but 200 is easy to get. Better mpg than the CVH as well as long as you don't always have a heavy right foot.

Drawing ammendments

Mick sent me a copy of the wiring info he has and I have been able to amend a couple of things. To start with from the Ignition switch the top wire starts as green/white but quickly changes to white/pink I have shown the green/white as being inside the switch as I have no idea where or when the wiri...

Better on a photo than in real life but what Scim is not. You cannot get to the bonnet catch through the Coupe headlights by the way and the headlight cover can only be removed by gaining access to the cover retaining butterfly nuts via a panel in the wheel arch. Easily got at by removing the front ...

What stops gauges, fan and indicators from working?

Don't assume the fuse if it looks ok is ok - the wire can become detached from the end cap and therefore it still looks all right although inside it has become open circuit - had that happen a couple of times over the years.

Random stuttering/cutting on way to work this morning

I think you have to find out if its electrical or fuel as a start - not easy if only happens on the move but the rev counter may be a guide as it will fall to zero pretty quickly if the spark dies whereas with a fuel problem it may well still indicate for a short while

Positive pressure in GTC fuel tank

Surely the roll-over vent will be normally be closed and normally opens only to let air in - drilling a hole in the cap is not the answer as if the tank is full it will/can let fuel out - especially if parked on a up-hill with the rear downhill.n I had my 6A for 27 years and it was always the same w...

Positive pressure in GTC fuel tank

Never heard of a tank being deformed or going ban with pressure - I assume it helps fuel going out of the tank to the carb.

Positive pressure in GTC fuel tank

The fuel pump will create pressure - that's what it does for a living Fred - plus the returned fuel will have expanded due to the engine heat - try the suck blow test on your cap.

Positive pressure in GTC fuel tank

The cap has a one way valve which allows air in but not out - try sucking and blowing the little hole in the cap for confirmation - My 6A and my GTC did the same "blow out" when I went for fuel - not noticed the same effect with the MB though but that has a different fuel system - Injection.
