I think you will have to put oil in to trace the leak - the level is checked with the engine running and the gears cycled through a few times - obviously not something you want to do with no oil so you have to find and fix the leak first
Mine comes on and off regularly and the time on becomes longer if I am stuck in traffic for a long time. But as long as the engine does not overheat it does not matter how long its on or off.
If its got the latest temp switch in the rad it won't run as long as he original, As long as the temp does not get above "normal" it should not matter how long it is on. It is after all cooling the temp of the water in the rad not the engine.
Morrison's petrol turned my plugs red. COs are too low I aim for 2.5 the limit being 3.5 - why the comment about coolant pipes - was the engine too hot. I would expect the coolant pipes to get hot - that's what they are for
