Too Much Work

Thanks old bean. The problem was definitely the switch, sorry it was I/me. The fix (small electrical contact) I installed was a little too small. The new one works fine. I shouldn't have said that - it's chancing fate and pushing Murphy's Law. By the way, and just out of interest, nothing else - wha...

Gathering Info.

Thank you old bean.
Info safely recorded in my file.
My normal source of supply for anything car-wise is Halfords. Don't know where else to go, 'cept t"internet.
By the way, my handbook lists brake fluid as Dot 3.

Gathering Info.

Thanks Jim. I was questioning the handbook as the info for engine oil refers to API spec SE or SF. API declares these are obsolete and I wondered whether anything else was obsolete/superseded. The only other fluid I find questionable is the coolant. Trawling the web for SSM-97B-9103-A gave me a feel...

Forgot to add: what sizes are the drain plug washers?
Are there any recommended types/ manufacturers?
Thanks, again.

Gathering Info.

Getting ready for complete liquids change on my car - not been done in 10 years. The only info I have on oils & coolant is from the handbook which must be well out-of-date. I've searched the forum plus used Google but I'm no wiser. Can anybody direct me to the current list of recommended liquids for...

Too Much Work

Managed to see operation of stop, & reverse, lights - somebody had dumped a broken TV and the inner screen made a reasonable mirror. Anyway, dismantled the switch and checked the components. It appears that a small, possibly brass / copper cap was missing. Made a new cap, re-assembled everything and...

gtcse8 - grub screw not required. Don't know where indicator (flasher unit?) is located - will check tomorrow. Old & Slow - good idea - maybe later. Roger - Hazards - good; lighter - good; rev & stop - can't check them on my own. Update - everything back together but still no indicators. Located a w...

Too Much Work

Spent a couple of hours faffing (long story involving forgetfulness and/or stupidity) about sorting out the problem. Put everything back together, connected the battery, started the engine and indicated left - nothing; indicated right - nothing. (However, my 'nodding' headlights no longer 'nod' (wor...

Too Much Work

Before I start dismantling operations to check: should the direction indicators on my SST be self-cancelling or is it normal that I have to do all the work myself - selecting both ON and OFF? If the system is supposed to be self-cancelling - what should I look for what I get to the mechanisms? If no...

Non starting TI

Don't know if this will be of any help. After setting up mechanically, set the ignition as follows: tune a transistor radio (your car radio should do) so that no station is being heard, i.e., only slight static. turn ON the ignition but do NOT operate the starter. turn the distributor by hand so the...
