2 rod gearbox upgrade and removal

2 rod box can be removed from car with engine in situ - tight fit, but have done this myself (whilst out, make some fly leads from the overdrive switch - you can then connect the O/D part of the loom to these fly leads and not have to fiddle about around the inaccessible O/D inhibitor switch)

Red 1970 SE5 at H&H, Buxton, tomorrow...

Provisionally sold only Wouldn't pay more than a few hundred quid for what is usable as spares (if indeed there are any usable spares) Has no value as a restoration as all what is visible is 5a (probably what is not visible as well) and hence 1972 or later Feel sorry for the person if they actual go...

Boyce's jaguar

The association with Only Fools and Horses is a positive one in this instance. What annoys me however is the sloppy journalism from the BBC of all places when it comes to reporting on anything related to classic cars. This is definitely not vintage! Any quick intent search would reveal that. Thanks ...

Re: Front suspension top ball joint

I went for the sealed type - saved explaining to some mot testers that it was in fact normal for the other type to allow some grease to escape from the unsealed end What I found was that the quality of the rubber dust seal was not great (for the sealed units I bought) - i had to replace the boots af...

Re: Troubled return to the road

Left the handbrake on once and thought I was down on power. Stopping at service station and seeing smoke emminating from rear brakes was the result. At 40deg you aren't even trying.

Re: Heater Matrix Removal

Interference - the external dimensions of the shaft slightly exceed those of the internal dimensions of the lever arm
Iirc - if I recall correctly
Pull apart - yes this is the way to dismantle, but fretting of parts means there is a limited number of times you can do this
Hope this helps

Re: Heater Matrix Removal

Those parts circled connect to flaps. You can remove the e-clip for the lower one and pull the arm from the second one (it is an interference fit iirc). Let me know if this helps or if I need to add pictures

Re: Castle Combe

Castle Combe 2016 was today. Excellent event as always, but down on number of scimitars - only an se4a that took part in the 70mph paced laps. Took the MG myself and did three parade laps of the circuit.

Re: Scimitar GTC Indicator Lucas L787

I had the same problem. Plenty of lenses, but it was the rubber boot that I required. Ended up buying the clear lense and boot from the guy who specialises in the Bedford TL spares - see other thread.

Re: Trunnion trouble?

Right, now I understand The bolt came out without the bush and they are still in place As mentioned earlier in the thread, the steel bush is clamped between two washers Rotation in application is the bush rotating relative to the nylon top hats. Your rotation has obviously been the bolt rotating on ...

Re: Trunnion trouble?

I cannot see from the image what is stuck. The usual case (in my experience) is that the steel bush corrodes onto the bolt (making removal difficult as the inner washers prevent the bolt removal). I can only assume therefore that the bushes are out and that the nylon top hats are the issue - the inn...
