SAR Massive irregular misfire

Adam that is a very kind offer thank you. I'll let you know tomorrow if I need it. I'm about to take mine out to check if there's an issue. It's the only thing left that hasn't been replaced.

SAR Massive irregular misfire

Thanks to everyone who is trying to help. But everything tried to date including all the suggestions above haven’t worked. In fact it’s worse as it refuses to start at all. The spring that Phil told me about I can just see and it’s not stretched. You can see it stretch as the rotor is turned. Accusp...

Mmmm, that’s worth checking Phil. Will go out dreckly to check Kuga is suffering from a 350mA parasitic battery drain. It’s been with an Autoelectrician for over a month and he can’t find the cause. It’s still there even with ALL the fuses removed. Car has been virtually dismantled. Workshop manual ...

Disconnect the vacuum pipe that goes to the carb and with the dizzy cap off, suck the pipe. The dizzy baseplate should rotate slightly. Stick your tongue over the end of the pipe and check it doesn’t lose vacuum. I think that Geoff is intimating that the mechanical advance is siezed. Jim, Vacuum ad...

SAR Massive irregular misfire

Really sorry to be going on about this, but I'm nearly out of ideas. Guess I'll have to start from the beginning and try logically to go through everything one at a time. Please be patient (and kind).  One thing that Jim Pace touched on was a stuck advance.(Sorry that was Phil) Am I righ...

SAR Massive irregular misfire

Thus is getting silly. I'm even more flummoxed and I've been on this ALL day. I started the car first thing and she ran ok. Took her round the block and thought I might see if I could get to the petrol station. I'd forgotten my wallet though so had to return home first. Starting out again ...

May be a daft idea, but do you have a spare distributor you could try? No Jim, but I suppose it's an option further down the line. Yes Phil, that's another thing to try, although it was new when I rebuilt SAR. If I hot wired from there to the coil would it matter that I'd be bypassing the eu...

Well, wherever Wits are I'm at the end of them. Misfire is still there ,but not all the time. I've now replaced coil, HT leads, red rotor and attempted to change the ignition module......twice! Yes I ordered a new Accuspark module, but when fitted car wouldn't even start. Followed the instructions t...

SAR Massive irregular misfire

Trouble being Andy, if I hot wire it it may or may not happen. Because it can be fine for days it wouldn't tell me if the issue was resolved or not. Phil, there is no sprung centre electrode, the rotor itself has a flexible metal leaf spring at its centre. Still going to look for copper cored leads ...

   It happened again today...the misfire.....despite fitting the new red rotor arm! It's such an intermittent problem. It's fine for days then it happens again. Change the 12v supply to the coil to a different source, its fine for a while then it kicks in again. Remove the...

So many poor quality coils out there it's difficult to know which ones to trust. Even well known makes are made in China these days and quality is thus questionable. The tuner I go to with my Elan has cupboards full of rejects some of them quite new! He won't even start a tuning session until he's s...

I have to say Jim and Jim that the rotor arm I have is RED and has been on the car since I first put her on the road 5 years ago. Nothing is sacrosanct I’m afraid 😟
