Re: SCIMITAR SE5 BASED 1950'S STYLE SPORTS CAR.

I saw this car twice at the Exeter kit car show... In buck rolling shell form The quality was very very low with lots and lots of filler :!: does anyone know if it was a molded body from the buck or did they just rub down and paint :?: If so the buyer will be very dissapointed at that money ...

Re: SCIMITAR SE5 BASED 1950'S STYLE SPORTS CAR.

what i dont understand with this "sammio" thing is: the factory, also the private builders are always reporting how low on budget such donors could be bought. but this is how the complete re-body process is starting to become wrong: why those heralds or scimitars can be bought for such a low price? ...

Re: SCIMITAR SE5 BASED 1950'S STYLE SPORTS CAR.

watching the enginebay and the one underneath picture it looks like the sammio body was fitted without the slightest refurbishment to the scimitar. so you buy a few hundred quid SE5, with a new body and pay (actually) nearly 4k??? no way. this would have been enough to get the SE5 back in a very goo...

Re: lightening a SE6a for track-use

as mentioned in the opening thread: glass needs to remain glass ..so perspex isnt allowed (for track and road regulations). i need to check inside the doors what could be removed..thats also on my to-do list. with the door cards themselves, i might not safe much weight removing them completely or re...

Re: lightening a SE6a for track-use

my main idea in getting rid of any weight is removing things from the car, rather doing " comprehensive or extreme" modifications. so the car should still be road legal (within certain limits, as even with the acutal "modifications" i already need a very, very open minded MOT tester fo passing the 2...

Re: lightening a SE6a for track-use

engine-swap is impossible over here...you will loose the registration or at least the historic status of the car ...which finally would be the same, as lots of areas are environmental (low emission) zones where only modern cars, or cars with historic status, are allowed to drive or pass. whels and t...

Re: lightening a SE6a for track-use

good job!!! especically with the bonnet.

but i dont want to re-paint my car after reducing some weight. so anything which isnt visible from outside, respective does not result in a repaint of the car needs to be considered.

Re: lightening a SE6a for track-use

its for competition (regularity test). the rules are rather lax in that series: roll-over bar. seat and harness with fia homologation, 4kg fire extingguisher (fia homologated), fia cut-off switch. glass must remain glass, passenger seat and interior can be removed. thats it. so where are the areas f...

lightening a SE6a for track-use

my SE6 will be converted to a track-car and i´m wondering which areas of the body could be cut away, drilled or removed for reducing the car´s weight. also other ideas for savin weight are welcome. glass needs to remain glass. until now i removed the complete interior (the dash remained), put in som...
