Thermostat?

Thanks Mark, I'm not keen on fitting a Chevette rack, but I think my other TI has one (I was told it had but I've never actually checked and it's currently a non-runner). I hadn't noticed any issues with the steering before changing the suspension, so I just fitted new track rod ends - probably shou...

Thermostat?

Hi Mark, that's great, thanks. I'll do the tracking and have a play but it does sound like a new one is in order. I think my other TI has a Chevette rack, or I'd try that one but I'm hoping to run with some new wheels and I don't want additional clearance issues...

Thermostat?

The MOT man didn't notice anything, it just feels very different to when I drove it in December... Loads up quickly in corners but feels loose in the straight ahead. I think I'll do the tracking and see if that changes things... I don't suppose you have any reconditioned racks, Mark?

Thermostat?

Thanks for the replies. All ball joints, track rod ends, bushes etc. Are new. It may be the rack, is there any way to definitively tell?

I think I'll try and replace the thermostat as it seems like a good first call and it's not (hopefully!) a huge job...

Thermostat?

The good news is that the car went in for its MOT and passed with no advisories and a commendation from the tester! So, I have obviously been driving around doing shakedown testing ;) The two things I have noticed are a possible steering oddity: there seems to be some slack in the steering when stra...

Thank you, it's a great relief!

I suppose it's a possibility the (single attachment) bolt gets work hardened from the engine vibrations. I was surprised that the head sheared rather than the aluminium threads stripping...

Maybe they changed it when they moved to the ribbed belt? I was surprised how easily it sheared, I wasn't using a big spanner. As for fixing it, I don't think there was as much wrong with it as I thought, It was mainly my stupidity. Darryl telling me that the distributor rotated anti clockwise sorte...

Well... Boardmasters might not be running but another 1800ti is!!! After having another fiddle today, and shearing off the distributor bolt that fixes it to the head (an easy fix due to incredible luck). I put her back together and she started first time. I think I might need to fine tune the timing...

Sorry Jim! My excuse is that it's all gone to hell down in the deep South-West, all the parents are in tears because they've cancelled Boardmasters so the teenagers are remaining at home...

On Jim's photos of the distributor the rotor arm appears to be pointing around 12 o'clock at 0° at 15° it appears to be pointing at around 1 o'clock. I'm sure mine was more like 2 o'clock!

Jim, on your distributor cap it appears to be numbered as 4 on the top right, my cap says 1, is that my imagination?

The crank/woodruff photo is during fitting and the belt wasn't aligned at that point.
