Tony I should have stipulated the last post I made was referring to PAS ONLY, as that is what the original question was based upon. I actually rebuild manual racks for the Austin 1800/2200 Landcrab owners club, just got another batch to look at which are Lockheed Remanufactured and they are rubbish...

Tony, was not disagreeing with you. :wink: BUT IF the saddle/slipper/damper was set too deep the rack would be VERY lumpy as the saddle/slipper/damper would push the teeth of the rack INTO the pinion. The ONLY adjustment to tighten the turning of the racks is via the shims and bearings in the Pinio...

It may simply be the adjustment of the rack saddle/damper has been set too tight.

How about using the gutter rivet holes to inject (*desperately thinking of something liquid metal like, that might flow well enough yet set hard enough*) into the tubes? You'll receive many opinions
but I have always used CV joint grease. It's a very soft grease well loaded with Moly - but you know that. And a grease gun.

Workshop heater - recommendations
If it's for a couple of hours there's little point in trying to heat the air. An electric radiant heater would be the best fit.
