'J' reg 5a for sale

Yes, so all the signs are there - 5a 'Scimitar' lettering, 5a black headlight surrounds, 5a Scimitar side badges, 5a interior... So what's the deal with the 'J' reg, I wonder? Personal plate?

OK - not actually a Scimitar

Ah, that solves it - nice looking car! I actually had 'Lotus' in my head when I saw it, but didn't want to risk suggesting that in case I was way off the mark! :D

OK - not actually a Scimitar

Someone alerted me to a 'chocolate brown Scimitar' that had been parked up for years next to an MG. On further investigation, I found this... https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.804695,-4.1246777,3a,15y,71.15h,80.58t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUpEwAk-IbWhg6H2rtOI3GA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Now clearly this is not...

'J' reg 5a for sale

I just spotted this for sale on eBay:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323811209753?ul_noapp=true

As far as I can tell this is a genuine 5a, not a 5. Were there really 'J' reg 'SE5a's? I always thought my 'K' reg 5a was about as early as you can get.

It's a 5a not a 5 so it can't be a 1970 model.
Nor is it a 'Simiter'!

Yes, I'd clocked this one too. It looks like an absolute cracker - well worth it, if all is as good as it would appear.

Stirling and District Classic Car Show 2019

Thanks for these, Will. Today was a cracker! I hadn't realised Kevin was there with UMA. It was nice to meet a few new faces (and Scimitars). Great start to the show season! 8)

That's one HUMdinger of a car, Mike! Great to see another yellow 5a getting back on the road. 8)

Ignition light staying on

Just a quick update on this - I fitted a new 17ACR 50 amp alternator and the problem is now solved. I decided to go with the simpler (if more expensive) approach. Thanks for the suggestions.

New (to me) Se5a

Welcome, Spencer. The car looks good! Does it really need stripped and rebuilt!? Where in the Borders are you? Hopefully you'll be able to make it along to join the Scotland (East) noggin which has pretty strong membership. I'm over in the west with a 1971 SE5a. We should hopefully have a few Scimit...

Dash cams.....

I have a Nextbase 402G in my daily driver, and have used it in my Scimitar when wanting to capture special journeys. For me, the clarity (of both audio and video) is great. I've had mine a few years now (it was 'Which? Best Buy' in 2014), so there may well be better ones on the market by now, but I ...

I reckon it could be a bargain?
Possibly, but it's just too much of an unknown quantity. Why couldn't the owner simply push it out of the garage, wash it, and get photos of more than just the rear end? It raises my suspicions somewhat...

Hear, hear! And as someone who appreciates number plates, that one is an absolute cracker! OSM 205M; so in other words it looks like 'Osm 2 Osm' or 'Awesome to Awesome', almost like 'going from strength to strength'. Best of luck with the engine fitting, and enjoy that stunning car! 8) Tom PS - Or,...

Pommy, I reckon our cars must be sending each other signals, as mine seems to suffer the same issues at the same time as yours. It was the same with the cutting out when warm, and now with the dodgy ignition light! For what it's worth, I've got an uprated 50amp 17ACR alternator on its way - decided ...

Ignition light staying on

I've tried turning the headlights on, then starting the engine. The headlights got brighter on start-up. So, should I conclude that the alternator is charging and doing its job, and that the fault is with the ignition light wiring? Again, on a short drive the car behaved impeccably. Any ideas are ap...
