SE6b numbers

Were there only 437 SE6b built??? That would make it rarer than the GTC, n'est-ce pas?

Lever position is another issue, it will be too far rearward as standard.
Correct! I'd forgotten all about that. I just remember the slick operation of the Type 9. But it was just a bit too far back for total comfort.

Type 9 into a Gtc

Where's Jim? I had a Type 9 box fitted to my GTC at the time - Olympic Blue VTO 68Y. It was fitted by Dave .... over at Silverstone. Cable clutch? I don't think so as I seem to remember there was a small issue with it which needed a bit of sorting and my (vague) memory - we are talking about approx....

Engine - autobox problem

Thanks for these initial comments. I'm sure Xavier will be delighted that it's probably going to be necessary to drop the box too! Any further suggestions very welcome!

Engine - autobox problem

We have a French owner with a gearbox/engine problem. Sorry, if some of this explanation is a bit awry, but I personally have no experience of auto boxes. He has bought an Essex engine and is having a problem mating it to his Ford C3 auto box. When he removed the dead Essex he took it out with the t...

SouthoFrance Sortie 2019

I particularly liked the translation of veterans (cars) as "former soldiers" (anciens combattants!).

SouthoFrance Sortie 2019

Hi, all. It looks like the Annecy suggestion is gathering momentum! Vincent, I personally wouldn't worry TOO much about finding a place to visit. The format for many years has been some sort of museum and then a vineyard, but I'm sure most of us won't mind if there's a change next year - quite the c...

SouthoFrance Sortie 2019

Hi, Sorry for the short notice, is it possible to join you at the hotel Sunday morning before the departure? Hi, Zeb. Shouldn't be a problem - quite the contrary. You'll be able to discuss TVR's with Fred and James if you get fed up with Scimitar chat! I would think we'll be aiming to leave the hot...

GTC Manual Gearbox removal

How did you get on, Alan? I was searching the forum, found your question and thought "Brilliant - that's just what I need to know" Sorry, lads, but the replies weren't really that helpful - apart from confirming the bit about removing the cross-member. So, first question - is the gearbox easy to sep...

Overdrive removal

No need! Undo the filler plug; feed down a bit of garden hose with a funnel at the back of the open bonnet, push into the filler and gently pour fresh oil down into the box. OK, you will always lose a little bit of oil, but surprisingly little. Fastest pit-stop so far about 6 minutes!

Overdrive removal

That's (almost) thought transfer (spooky!). I was about to post somewhat shamefacedly (does that exist as a word?), to ask about overdrive maintenance. My overdrive and gearbox on the GTC leak like a sieve too. I top it up every two or three months, which I suppose is good for the box - nice fresh o...

Bonnet woes

That's what I've done on the GTC. Just a bit of string to behind the headlight...... Somehow seems in keeping with the general engineering ethos of the car!!

Too old to drive?.......

Cannonball! Wow! The NHS gets so much bad press - and yet the vast majority of users think it's great. The staff in hospitals must get SO p.ss.d off with the bad news items of ops cancelled, long waiting times at A and E, ambulances times etc etc ad infinitum - but all that must be more than compens...

Too old to drive?.......

Totally agree, Philip. That's how I got my French licence, 25 years ago. The interesting point is that the old pink paper licences were issued for life , whereas the new plastic ones are valid for ten years (or so I am told); so if you have an old one, and you are over 60, don't be persuaded to tra...

Too old to drive?.......

I'll check it out, but in France there is no check for age limit on driving. Certainly my French licence (grudgingly exchanged for my UK licence back when the French insisted you couldn't drive here without a French licence) has nothing marked on it under the validity heading. Frightening when you s...
