Ross Traders Historic - Saturday 1st February 2020 After a year off, the Ross Traders was back with a new organising team and a completely different format with 9 Tests and 2 Regularities inside Caerwent, and 3 Regularities on the public road. Just over 40 cars had entered with Carrie and I at Car ...

Thanks - the last thing I want is a Q plate, especially as I have already proved the age of the chassis
I also didn't think they issued Q plates any more, giving new plates to kit cars, etc

GavinR's Se5a Project

Over the winter I did the usual thorough check of everything as our historic season was starting earlier in 2020 with the Ross Traders having moved to 1st February 2020 It was also an afternoon / evening event and as Carrie and I had never done anything in the Scimitar after dark, we entered Tavern ...

So the registration saga continues, after chasing the DVLA again, I received another letter today "Dear... Following investigation of our records and from the information recevied from you, the vehicle in your possession will need to be re-registered with a Q registration number. The original regist...

Understanding my automatic choke

Assuming the fuel pump is as on the picture of the instructions, then it's a usual Facet cylindrical pump and the pressure depends on the model, and the fuel regulator should be restricting the pressure enough to let the carb needle valve / floats work correctly I would start by checking the fuel pr...

GTC Manual Gearbox removal

I would start with the car at a sensible working height, enough to slide underneath and undo bolts, etc, then slide backwards on the gearbox jack Once it is free, then raise the car high enough to get the gearbox out - if you can get enough height to keep it on the gearbox jack then it makes everyth...

Alternative motorsport for the scims ? Navigational rally ?

I’ve joined south hams motor club and they are very active in the motorsports arena. I work in Plymouth which is basically on the doorstep. I did an auto solo at the weekend and it was actually really good fun. Plenty of runs, Adrenalin etc. MSA Clubman licence (free) and £20 entry so well worth it...

Essex starter motor connections.

The spade will be the solenoid connection (from the ignition switch or starter button) The threaded stud is for the cold start wire which goes directly to the coil, bypassing the ballast resistor to provide 12v for a bigger spark when cranking I assume it's threaded to provide a better connection fo...

Blimey. Front wheels, back end and drivers head all pointing in the expected direction, a rare occurrence for the Cornishman
Ah - but one dead cone behind him :P
Good pic
The blue cones are laid down against the "inside" of the orange cones to help drivers know where to go around the course

KVL SE5 Project

The inspection was done yesterday by a sensible chap from SGS and took about 30 minutes He took various pictures - front, back, sides, dashboard, mileage, and did a good job of cleaning the chassis number so he could get a decent picture of it, and asked a lot of questions Apparently his notes from ...

After a few months of letters and emails to and from the DVLA, they identified a discrepancy, presumably that the chassis does not match the registration plate, as suggested by Jim when we looked at 8 Ball over the summer. I filled in more forms for a rebuilt vehicle which asks where the different p...

Great pictures I had 70ish cars through my control near Weston Super Mare on Saturday afternoon, they had a brief detour off the M5 for a Regularity before they headed to Caerwent Training ground in South Wales for some Tests and a supper halt near Magor. Following the halt, they continued up throug...

Relay bracket source anyone?

I used one of these when rewiring my Se5a

Or you can buy individual ones that lock together (as AJL says)

Fuel hose

I think it's currently 5% for standard (95) fuel - going up to 10% at some point, I gather. Not all "Super" has Ethanol - or didn't last time I looked but as you get 97, 98 and 99RON Super Unleaded you can see it's all the same stuff  Shell V-Power I've noticed now has E5 stickers on the pump...

I liked the plate on this Gilbern Invader competing at Wiscombe Park Hillclimb today
