for the amount you would take off the block it wouldnt tighten the clearance up by very much at all-make just as much difference using a slightly thinner head gasket...

just make sure there is a fraction of play and its not compressing the release bearing-back in the 80s a lot of the fords used a ratchet and pawl to self adjust

on mine the system fits on the outside of the tubular downpipe-i had a rattle from a silencer so cut it open to empty and weld weld,its very thin and very old though and i had teething troubles with my new welder[operator error-mine] so there is now a little chuff from my weld,could remove and do it...
