Tips on electrical fault when starting? Before I take it all apart...

Well, the garage was broken into, but it looks like they didn't touch a thing. Just need a new garage door :/ How very tiresome.

Tips on electrical fault when starting? Before I take it all apart...

Getting there in slow steps. It seems that having been drawn out once, the pins are now a little prone to it and one was pushed free while joining the two sockets back in the car. And then all of them! Annoying :/ I'll have to see about making sure those little bendy bits are properly bent out again...

Thanks very much Phil. Constant light pressure pulling on the wire and pressing in each side of the connector in turn with a suitable thin flathead screwdriver does the job; once you've got the feel of it, only a few seconds per pin. Now I just replicate the pattern of the original and I'm half-way ...

Well, having got out there this afternoon, and after a scary few minutes in which it appeared the brakes had seized (which is a bit off, as I never actually leave the handbrake on - so what's going on there? That really is scary, because if it won't roll I truly see no way to get it out - there's no...

Okey dokey; so if I buy that one in the ebay link, I may (or may not) have to do some manual wire splicing to get the right wires to the right connection pins.

Bingo. I did put it in. I replaced that light switch a while ago. Knew I'd touched it before! Thanks very much.

Anyone got a part 94159? If someone could confirm (or not) that the ebay one linked to above will fit, I'll get that one.

Well, good news from a diagnostic perspective! With the turny bit turned to position I (such that the clock comes on), and then a screwdriver across the brown (+12V) and the white (position II), that position's circuit completes - fuel pump makes whirring noise, lights on dashboard come on to compla...

Many of us have spares available - new ones can be found cheaper if you shop around. That is good, because after I wrote that I thought about having three such switches in a little line ready for flicking, and I really quite like the idea! Each one with a little glowing LED. Renders the SS1 a bit p...

A replacement part ie. just the rear part will cost about £40
Ye Gods. Almost worth breaking the wires out into a separate little box of three switches and just taping that to the dashboard; a fiver's worth of flick-switches and tape :)

I reckon next time I'm out there I'll try a simple test with a screwdriver; just join the brown wire electrode to the green/white one, and see what I get. If screwdrivers across electrodes makes everything work, it's time for a new switch. They sure do look expensive!

Looks like it wouldn't be so much "unplug" as "desolder", which would be a pain. Once I've dug out these crocodile clips, I'll experiment with voltages. I'll need to find a convenient earth under there somewhere, and thence (if I read the above right) with the keys out I should find the brown-wire e...

I followed the wires back by hand from the part to a connection block; couldn't get a look at it but it felt like it was connected fine. https://i.imgur.com/YIpacV6.png Looking at the back of the part, I foolishly assumed that I'd find high-resistance across all four electrodes of interest with the ...
